Architecture Projects
Eastern Market Vertical Farm
Eastern Market is a commercial neighborhood, named after the 19th century operating farmer markets. The site used for the project is bound by Erskine, Wilkins, Orleans, and Riopelle Streets.
The purpose of the project was to analyze the site, synthesize main architecture, ecological (site/climate) and user needs, develop HVAC zones, and integrate LEED performance criteria in the structure and surrounding site.
The Vertical Farm was to create a site that could be associated with the existing Eastern Market. The site and the structure were designed with the idea of a structural grid within nature. Materials such as steel were used for the light and airy design.
London Office Commercial Residential
London Office Commercial Residential building is located in London, England. It was designed and constructed by Michael Wilkins and Partner.
The purpose of the project was to recreate the structure from slab to enclosure. Each unit of the project introduced various level of the structural process including: framing, vertical core coord., horizontal layout coord., enclosure typical, enclosure atypical, and enclosure design.
Croswell Connect
Croswell is a city on the East side of Michigan. The city consists of a small downtown and a population of approximately 2,300 residents. The purpose of the project was to create an urban mixed-use residential and commercial building using the existing abandoned Croswell hotel. The project was composed in a group setting of four members.
The team began our iterative process by taking notes of the existing conditions in Croswell and exploring the existing structure architectural drawbacks in the building. These drawbacks ranged from spacial deficiencies to formal qualities present in the architecture. Different iterations were explored varying from affirmative to critical design approaches, that worked within and against the architectural drawbacks to provide unique solutions based on the expression and prioritization. Five “main” programmatic spaces within the building responded to the existing culture and program of the Croswell area.
These spaces being: the maker space, the community space, the co-op living, the business incubator, and the exterior gathering spaces. These spaces evolve by unifying the traditional forms of Croswell and advanced technology of modern architecture.
Islandview Neighborhood
Islandview is a neighborhood, west of West Village. The neighborhood is bound by Jefferson, Mack, Mt. Elliot and Baldwin Street. The purpose of the project was to analyze the urban environment and eventually create an urban living project that was sustainable and would benefit the neighborhood of Islandview.
The site for the project was between the two main road East Vernor Highway and Kercheval Avenue. As well as two minor roads of Beaufait and Bellevue Street. The area was originally a part of a railroad called the Detroit’s Terminal Belt-line which reached rural undeveloped locations. The railroad has since been decommissioned and the belt-line is to be constructed to connect to the Riverfront and include a bike trail. The neighborhood has other historic features located within it, such as the previous Seafoam Palace of Arts and the Pickle Factory.
MOCAD Assembly Building
MoCAD, also known as Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is located between Woodward and Garfield in Downtown Detroit. The museum explores contemporary art and focus on “nurturing social change and human understanding”.
The concept for the project was to create an addition of an assembly building to the existing MoCAD Museum. This building would have space for large gatherings, classes, offices, and a outdoor public area.
